The Wheel of Time.
The Wheel of Time.
"Time is not behind us - we are behind in life when we are not present in it."
There lived an old watchmaker in a village. His workshop was small, the watches were old, worn, and often barely worked. People still brought their broken watches to him because they said:
- This man not only repairs, but also listens.
One day a young man brought him a wristwatch. He was nervous, impatient.
- It doesn't work exactly, he said. - I'm in a hurry, fix it quickly.
The old man took the watch, looked into the mechanism, and then asked the question:
- Why are you in such a hurry?
- Because I'm always late. Always. Time is slipping away from me.
The watchmaker didn't answer, he just started working in silence. He took the watch apart, cleaned it, oiled it, and then gave it back.
- It's done. It works exactly now.
The man looked at it, buckled it up, and was about to leave when the old man called out after him:
– Do you know what was wrong with it?
– Did it break?
– No. It was full of dust.
– And?
– Time always runs exactly. We are the ones who will be full of dust. With worries, anger, haste. And then it is not the clock that is late… but we are not there in the moment.
The young man stopped. At first he did not understand. Then something slowly moved in him.
The old man added this:
– You can fix a clock with a screwdriver.
You can fix life by paying attention.
And then the man realized: it is not time that is running away from him – he is running away from time.
