The Parable of the Scales.
The Parable of the Scales.
There was once a wise man to whom many people turned for advice. One day two brothers stood before him. One was full of grievances, the other was complacent. "I want justice!" shouted the first. "I always work harder, yet it seems that my brother gets the credit!" The other just shrugged: "I deserved what I got." The wise man took out an old scale and placed it in front of the two brothers.
In one pan he put the wrinkles of tired hands, getting up at dawn, silent sacrifices. In the other, promises, loud words, glory in front of others. However, the scale did not move. Both pans stood the same.
The brothers looked at him in astonishment.
"How is this possible?" they asked at the same time. "After all, in one there is work, in the other there is only words!" The wise man smiled:
– Truth is not what you see. The scales only tip when life adds the final weight: time.
And indeed: over the years, the word faded, the glory was forgotten – but the work, the wrinkles of the tired hands, the sacrifice all bore fruit. Slowly but surely, the scales finally tipped in favor of the working brother.
👉 Lesson:
Truth is sometimes late. But if it is real, it is never late. Time is the only judge who is never wrong.
