The Memory of the Coffee Cup.

An elderly couple sat on the porch every afternoon.

There were always two cups of coffee on the table—even when the man was sitting there alone.

The neighbors were used to silently waving to him, and he always smiled back.

One day a young neighbor came up to him and asked,

"Why do you always put out the other cup?"

The old man looked out into the sunset.

"Because love doesn't stop because someone isn't here.

If I don't put it out, it means I've forgotten them.

But as long as the cup is here, I'll talk to them."

Since then, the boy has put out two cups every morning—one for himself and one for someone he's grateful for in life.
