The law and the truth.
"The law sets limits to our actions, but the truth shows us where we should go."
Once upon a time there was an old merchant who did not count the money first, but looked into the eyes of people.
Many in the city did not understand him.
They said:
- Why do you give cheaper when you could ask for more?
- Why do you help someone who cannot give back?
- Why don't you live like others?
The old man just smiled.
He did not argue.
He knew that there are questions that should not be answered with words, but with life.
One day a young student came to him.
He stood confused in the courtyard, holding a paper in his hand, full of numbers and rules.
- Master - he asked - tell me what is right.
According to the law, I should do this.
But according to my heart, it is different.
The old man was silent for a long time.
He picked up a stone from the ground and threw it into the stream.
The water drew circles, ever-expanding waves.
"Do you see?" he asked softly. "The stone is the law.
It falls into the water and leaves a mark.
But where the wave runs next depends on the heart.
The boy looked at the water mirror.
For the first time he understood that the law gives order, but truth gives direction.
Years passed.
The old merchant died.
He left behind no great fortune, no name carved in marble.
Only people who remembered him in silence, because he had once treated them fairly even when it was not obligatory.
And the city slowly understood:
It is not what the law allows that matters, but what kind of people we become in the process.
The Silence.
